Riding the Baja Divide

The Baja Divide is a rugged 2735km off-pavement bikepacking route from San Diego to Mexico. It takes around 42 days to complete and has a difficulty rating of 7.5/10 because the roads are 95% unpaved so its not recommended for inexperienced riders.

As an unsupported ride, cyclists need to be very prepared and have a good level of fitness as well as being able to carry up to 2-3 days of food and 10 litres of water as resources are limited. The ride is a free resource and open to ride at anytime but for the best conditions, head there between November and March to make the most of the dry, warm climate.

The Route

If you are considering attempting this ride, then it is definitely worth checking out this short film "Baja Divide: Tales on Tyres" by a couple from Germany who self-documented their experience on a GoPro. Using a GPS device such as a iPhone for Navigation is a must for this particular ride as most of the roads and tracks along the route are unnamed and unmarked and we reckon if you look closely you can see our Quad Lock Out Front Mount on the bikes.
