Young Guns Part 2: Oscar Piastri vs Pedro Acosta, the Off-Road Rematch

Formula 1 driver Oscar Piastri and MotoGP rider Pedro Acosta are back. Two years after their karting showdown, the Quad Lock athletes have traded Grand Prix machinery for identical off-road buggies in Young Guns Part 2. Three challenges, one motocross track, and one winner.

Where it started: Young Guns Part 1

In 2024, Quad Lock brought Piastri and Acosta together for the first Young Guns film. It was a karting challenge in France, with Acosta driving a kart for the first time. Piastri came out on top.

A lot has happened since. Piastri is now a nine-time Formula 1 Grand Prix winner with the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team. Acosta won his first MotoGP Grand Prix in Austria in September 2026 and is one of the championship’s standout young talents.

F1 vs MotoGP on dirt

For Part 2, the pair left the tarmac behind. Young Guns Part 2 was filmed on 14 August 2026 at Monti MX, a motocross circuit in the hills above Menton on the French Riviera. The track is hard-packed, rutted and full of jumps.

Piastri and Acosta raced matching Segway Super Villain buggies, which took both of them out of their usual disciplines. Four wheels suit Piastri, and dirt suits Acosta. Neither of them races buggies.

“Last time it was karting, which is pretty much home turf for me, so I had a bit of an advantage,” said Piastri. “This time Pedro probably had the edge, with the dirt and the jumps. I’ll let people watch and decide who handled it better.”

“I always have a good time with Oscar,” said Acosta. “We laughed a lot making the first video, and this one was the same. Being on the dirt with the buggies was something different for us, and the track at Monti is amazing.”

Hosted by Charley Boorman

Long-time Quad Lock ambassador, adventure rider and TV presenter Charley Boorman hosts the showdown. He takes the pair through each challenge and catches the moments between runs.

The film combines on-board cameras, drones and trackside footage with candid moments away from a Grand Prix weekend. It is Quad Lock’s most ambitious production to date.

Quad Lock mounts, put to the test

The phones in Young Guns Part 2 weren’t props. Both buggies ran Quad Lock mounts, and the phones were part of the challenges themselves, so they had to take the vibration, impacts and jumps of a full motocross circuit.

“Our product is integrated into the challenges because that is where it belongs,” said Dom Storey, Global Head of Sports Marketing at Quad Lock.

Every Quad Lock mount uses the Dual Stage Lock, which is built to keep your phone secure when the terrain gets rough.
