How to unlock your iPhone 7 when using the poncho

One of the more subtle changes with the iPhone 7 & 7 Plus is the new pressure sensitive home button. This "button" relies on the conductive touch from your finger and responds with a vibration when pressed, simulating the feedback you would get from real button.

Generally it works fine, however as we recently discovered, if you're wearing gloves or have the Poncho on your iPhone 7 or 7 Plus, it does not register a press.

The good news is that the iPhone7 and iPhone 7 Plus are now water resistant so riding/running in the rain is no longer an issue. The Poncho however is still great protection in extreme conditions again dust and mud.

In the meantime Apple have a work around for this issue which will allow you to unlock your iPhone while either wearing gloves or using the Poncho. To turn it on you go to:

Settings > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch > Slide to On

This will give you a digital "software button" which you can use instead of the physical home button. You can position this "software button" anywhere on your screen.

To unlock your phone, press on the sleep/wake button and then use the menu to unlock your phone.
